Virginia
Lasya Kathak Dance Academy (LKDA), founded in 2008 in Fairfax, VA, is a premier Kathak dance school dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian classical arts. The academy’s artistic philosophy emphasizes storytelling, rhythmic precision, and grace, blending tradition with innovation to engage modern audiences. Through performances, education, and cultural outreach, LKDA strives to make Kathak accessible while maintaining its authenticity.
LKDA has presented its work in the U.S. and India, performing at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, The Strathmore, Smithsonian FolkLife Festival, Smithsonian Freer and Sackler Art Gallery, Capitol Hill, and the Indian and Bangladesh Embassies, along with many others across the Washington metropolitan area. The academy has also performed for the Virginia Governor’s Office and at the Indian Ambassador’s residence for Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2022. In 2023, LKDA collaborated with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra & Fairfax County Public Schools for FSO Link Up: The Orchestra Sings!
Beyond the stage, LKDA is committed to arts education and community engagement. The academy regularly conducts interactive workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and seminars at schools and cultural organizations, engaging audiences of all ages and fostering appreciation for Indian dance. LKDA also collaborates with local partners in Indian classical dance and other performing arts genres to enrich students, educate audiences, and push the boundaries of the art form.
A proud member of the Virginia Dance Coalition, LKDA continues its mission to share the elegance and complexity of Kathak through performances, education, and cultural outreach.
